PLANET appoints new president-elect

PLANET has named Jim Martin, CLP, to serve as its president-elect. Martin is president of James Martin Associates, Inc., in Vernon Hills, Illinois.

“It will be an honor to lead this powerful organization as we make huge strides in becoming the voice of the green industry,” states Martin, who has been a member of the board of directors and has remained involved with the association for many years.

Martin has been the director of PLANET’s Business Development Key Result Area, the chairman of PLANET’s Design/Build/Installation Specialty Group, and the organization’s liaison on fundraising for building a park in Lower Manhattan to honor the firefighters and police officers who staged there during the rescue and recovery efforts of September 11.

James Martin Associates, founded in 1977, offers award-winning landscape design, construction, maintenance, and commercial snow management services throughout Northern Illinois and Chicagoland North Shore.

James H. Johnson named PLANET’s director of products and services

Welcome to James H. Johnson, PLANET’s new director of products and services. Johnson has an extensive background in working with the green industry and with associations. An active participant in FFA, Johnson also earned a bachelor of science degree in Agribusiness Management and a graduate degree in Agricultural Economics (with a concentration in agribusiness management and marketing) from Texas A&M University.

Additionally, Johnson has more than 13 years of experience with associations in the DC area. His most recent association job was executive director for the American Council of Engineering Companies of Metropolitan Washington.

“I’m very pleased to join PLANET and to be able to bring my agribusiness education together with my association management experience,” says Johnson. “PLANET represents an exciting industry, and I look forward to working with the membership on future programs and events.”

Eddie Woods joins certification team

Certification Manager Eddie Woods is the newest member of PLANET’s certification team. With more than nine years of association and certification experience, Woods brings to the job a tremendous enthusiasm for certification. He oversees coordination and development of certification and recertification program operations. He is also the liaison to the International Certification Council and its subcommittees.

“PLANET’s certification programs were designed with the needs of professionals in the green industry in mind,” says Woods. “When industry professionals and consumers see that you are PLANET-certified, they will know that you meet standards of proficiency recognized in the green industry, and that you are committed to the profession. The certification programs that PLANET offers can help you meet today's challenges and those down the road.”
