Executive Forum … sell-out success A record number of company owners, managers, and upper-level employees attended PLANET’s recent Executive Forum. They learned how to creatively apply the principles of “lean management” to their businesses using Lego® building blocks. (Recent Events) go to top Eldon Dyk honored for his lifetime of leadership PLANET’s Lifetime Achievement Award is presented annually to a member of the association who has demonstrated leadership, service, and commitment and who has made contributions to both PLANET and the green industry. Congratulations to Eldon Dyk, CCLP, of ValleyCrest Landscape Maintenance, in Parker, Colorado, this year’s award recipient. Dyk’s first involvement with the Associated Landscape Contractors of America (ALCA), PLANET’s legacy association, began in 1984 when he became chairman of the Student Career Days Committee. He then became involved in the Landscape Management Division Board. He was a member of the Crystal Ball Committee, was heavily involved in industry recruiting, and oversaw the first Executive Forum. He pushed for curriculum guidelines for two- and four-year schools to ensure that landscape programs were appropriate and encouraged the schools to become accredited by the curriculum committee. In 1991, Dyk was president of ALCA. Dyk’s commitment to the green industry extends beyond ALCA and PLANET. He also has worked tirelessly on behalf of the Associated Landscape Contractors of Colorado. Rod Bailey, CCLP, of Alder Springs Enterprises and a 1997 Lifetime Leadership Award recipient presented the award to Dyk at the PLANET Executive Forum in Bonita Springs, Florida. Bailey says, “Eldon has contributed greatly to this industry, and my faith in helping him move forward has always been more than fully justified.” go to top Erickson Retirement Communities recognized for its commitment to the green industry Quality landscaping plays a key role in Erickson Retirement Communities’ strategy of providing an attractive lifestyle based on excellent services, bountiful opportunities, and convenience for residents in desirable facilities. Erickson understands that attractive landscaping improves quality of life and has demonstrated its commitment to maintaining beautiful grounds. Residents are given many opportunities to enjoy the landscape in miles of walking paths, nature trails, garden plots, ponds, greenhouses, and gardens. Native plantings and reforestation are a common element on its properties, and wildlife is encouraged in natural areas and creatively managed. Created in 1986, the Green Industry Contribution Award is presented by PLANET to major corporations, developers, and municipalities that are committed to using professional contracted services for quality interior plantscaping, landscaping, or lawn care. In keeping with past recipients of this award, Erickson has changed the way people view the green industry and has contributed to the quality of the environment. PLANET member TruGreen LandCare nominated Erickson for this prestigious award. go to top Reservations open for the 2007 Green Industry Conference The Galt House Hotel and Suites, located in downtown Louisville, will be the hotel headquarters for PLANET’s Green Industry Conference (GIC) to be held October 24–27, 2007, in Louisville, Kentucky.
