U.S. congressman to speak at Legislative Day breakfast

As part of PLANET’s Legislative Day on the Hill, July 15–17, 2007, in Washington, D.C., enjoy breakfast and hear U.S. Rep. Howard Coble (R-N.C.) discuss current issues on Capitol Hill at the Breakfast on the Hill. The Legislative Day event allows members to visit with their congressmen to discuss critical issues that impact their businesses and the industry. Renewal & Remembrance speaker announced

The day before the Legislative Day on the Hill visits, attendees volunteer their skills and/or equipment for the "Renewal & Remembrance" project, a national community service effort to beautify Arlington National Cemetery and Historic Congressional Cemetery. U.S. Rep. Leonard Boswell (D-Ia.), a retired Army lieutenant colonel, will speak at the event. If you plan on attending Renewal & Remembrance, a separate registration is required

Specialty Symposium keynote on understanding Hispanic culture

This year’s PLANET Specialty Symposium, August 24–27, 2007, in Indianapolis, Indiana, will feature keynote speaker Seth Dechtman, who will address how best to reach the Hispanic worker by understanding the varying levels of acculturation and the values associated with each, as well as how to increase productivity and retention among a diverse workforce.

Make plans for GIC and the bigger, better GIE EXPO

The Green Industry Conference (GIC), the industry’s largest educational experience, will be held in Louisville, Kentucky, on October 24–27, 2007. It will include the same large variety of track-specific sessions and networking opportunities as in the past, but this year it will be held in conjunction with an expanded GIE EXPO. Online search capabilities expanded

It’s now easier for customers to find PLANET members online. It’s also easier for PLANET members to network with peers. Both the “Find a Professional” feature and the “Online Membership Directory” on PLANET’s Web site have new search capabilities. New primary search options include a ZIP code radius search and a search by main company contacts.

Deadline approaching for entering PLANET’s awards program

Entries are now being accepted for the Environmental Improvement Awards, Green Industry Contribution Award, Association Partner of the Year Award, and Association Executive Partner of the Year Award programs, as well as the Community Service Recognition Program. Applications need to arrive at the PLANET office no later than July 25, 2007.

OSHA targets worksites for inspection

Approximately 4,150 high-hazard worksites are on tap for inspection under the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 2007 Site-Specific Targeting Program. This year's program initially targets sites that reported 11 or more injuries or illnesses, resulting in days away from work, restricted work activity, or job transfer for every 100 full-time employees. The worksites of companies in the OSHA Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) or Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) will not be subject to inspections.
