                          REGISTER NOW FOR PLANET’S 2008 STUDENT CAREER DAYS 
                                 The largest green industry recruiting event of the year

HERNDON, Va., January 4, 2008 — PLANET’s 2008 Student Career Days (SCD), an annual, three-day competition and networking event for students enrolled in two- and four-year horticulture programs at colleges and universities nationwide, will be held March 27–30 at North Metro Tech in Atlanta, Georgia. This event, which started in 1977 with five schools, has grown to become the largest green industry recruiting event.

There are three key elements for students to participate in at SCD: educational sessions and workshops, the Career Fair, and 26 competitive events. Through the educational sessions, students are exposed to a wide range of industry-related topics, and several of the workshops also allow them to apply the techniques they’ve just learned in role-playing scenarios. Topics covered include computer-aided landscape and exterior landscape design, irrigation, cost estimating, leadership techniques, sales strategies, and safety guidelines for loading and unloading a truck and trailer and for operating a skid steer. The Career Fair provides some 100 companies from all over the country with the opportunity to hold on-the-spot interviews to fill their full-time and internship positions. And in the competitive events — designed, set up, and judged by green industry companies — students are tested on a broad spectrum of industry skills, from identifying annuals, perennials, and woody ornamental plants; operating a compact utility loader, a skid steer, and truck and trailer; to irrigation design, assembly, and troubleshooting, to name a few.
