PLANET RECOGNIZES MEMBERS FOR THEIR COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECTS

HERNDON, Va., January 4, 2008 — The Professional Landcare Network (PLANET) is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2007 Community Service Recognition Awards, which recognizes PLANET members that have demonstrated leadership through their dedication and contribution to their communities. The award recipients are:

PIA, Ukiah, California, for its donation of time and materials to provide the Cathedral City Senior Center with a professional interior plant installation for its new community center.

AAA Lawns, Inc., Fayetteville, Arkansas, for raising awareness and money for The Children’s House, which provides services for abused and neglected children ages 18 months to 5 years. This is the fifth year AAA Lawns hosted a Snip-a-thon, where its employees volunteered their time and part of their paychecks to mow one of its clients’ lawns … with scissors.

A to Z Lawn & Landscaping, Inc., Centerville, Ohio, for redesigning the Driscol Elementary School atrium, supervising all aspects of the construction, and assisting in scheduling donations of equipment and supplies. Ongoing involvement includes teaching garden care and planting to the school’s students who have multiple disabilities.

Keep It Green Landscaping, Fair Lawn, New Jersey, for Arbor Day 2007 at Radburn Elementary School, where the company educated the children on the importance of trees and provided them with the opportunity to help install a tree on the school grounds.

Austin Outdoor, Bunnell, Florida, for giving University of Florida students a hands-on landscaping experience, while improving the aesthetic look of the school’s Environmental Horticulture Department building. Two of the students who worked on the project are now part of the company’s summer internship program.

James Martin Associates, Inc., Vernon Hills, Illinois, for building six enabling gardens over the last eight years at the Chicago Flower and Garden Show to benefit the Arthritis Foundation. The goal of the Arthritis Foundation’s enabling garden is to educate the public that gardening can be enjoyed by people with arthritis.

Community service projects eligible for recognition are those in which five or more company employees have participated. The service may or may not be green industry-related.
