PLANET WELCOMES NEW MEMBERSHIP DIRECTOR

HERNDON, Va., March 1, 2006 — The Professional Landcare Network (PLANET) is pleased to announce that James Garnett has joined the PLANET staff as director of membership.

Garnett’s focus at PLANET is to build relationships with current and prospective members and to develop partnerships with companies offering green industry affinity programs. With more than fourteen years of substantive membership and marketing know-how, Garnett looks forward to expanding PLANET’s member benefits and services programs, encouraging nonmembers to join the organization, and working to retain its current membership.

Garnett started his association career with the American Electronics Association (AEA), a national organization representing the high-technology industry. Working out of the New England Council office, he built the bridge between his association and the senior level executives at companies such as Motorola, Hewlett-Packard, Intel, and Cisco Systems. Previously, he worked for the Boston Ballet and helped to raise funds to build their new state-of-the-art school and administrative building in Boston’s historic South End.

Prior to joining PLANET, Garnett was the membership director for the Massachusetts Medical Society (MMS), publishers of the prestigious New England Journal of Medicine. While at MMS, he revitalized its membership program, which increased member involvement and brought new members to the organization.

Garnett has a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing from Central Connecticut University and an Associates Degree in Computer Science. He also completed a graduate program in Public Health from Harvard in 2001, concentrating in environmental issues. His report, From Water to Wastewater, won an environmental award and was published on the Internet.

“What I love most about my job is working closely with the members and helping them to run their businesses successfully. I also enjoy bringing students into the fold, engaging them in careers in the industry, and then showing them the value of becoming lifelong members of PLANET.”
