SANDHILLS COMMUNITY COLLEGE BECOMES PLANET ACCREDITED

HERNDON, Va., March 3, 2008 — Sandhills Community College in Pinehurst, North Carolina, has been granted “full accreditation” for its outstanding Landscape Gardening Program by the Professional Landcare Network (PLANET). The program will be accredited until 2014, at which time another review will be required.

"PLANET has set a very high standard, and we are very excited about attaining this accreditation,” says Dee Johnson, coordinator of the Sandhills Community College Landscape Gardening Program. “This will add an additional level of credential to the students’ degrees, when they graduate from Sandhills Community College. In addition, the accreditation should aid in recruitment of new students and job placement for graduates."

PLANET’s accreditation program is an “industry accreditation,” driven by the needs of the landscape industry. It provides local and national recognition for schools with four-year Bachelor of Science and two-year Associate of Science degree programs that meet the needs of the industry, and is the only nationally recognized endorsement offered to colleges and universities with landscape/horticulture curricula. Twenty-five institutions of higher learning currently have programs that are PLANET accredited.

The PLANET accreditation team charged with the responsibility and authority of the on-site review includes Kent Hammond, Associate Professor Emeritus, The Ohio State University; Frank Millsap, Professor Emeritus, Richland College; and Kurt Bland, CLP, CLT, Bland Landscaping Co.
