PLANET ANNOUNCES NEWLY CERTIFIED CANDIDATES

HERNDON, Va., June 2, 2008
— An important part of the mission of the Professional Landcare Network (PLANET) is to promote the professional advancement of its members. One means to achieve that goal is through a certification program that tests individuals against a national standard created by PLANET.

Certified Landscape Professional (CLP)
To achieve the CLP designation, a candidate must master a body of material on all aspects of operating a green industry business. The four-hour exam is divided into seven sections: Risk, Law, and Contracts; Human Resources; Produc¬tion/Operation and Horticulture; Marketing; Leadership; Strategic Planning; and Corporate Financial Management. PLANET congratulates:

Levi Duckett, CLP, Sunshine Landscape, LLC, Meridian, ID
Candance McKeone, CLP, Patriot Landscape & Arboriculture, Inc., Marston Mills, MA
Mike Voories, CLP, Lawn Works, Inc., Whitmore Lake, MI

Certified Landscape Technician-Exterior (CLT-E)
The CLT-Exterior exam is a day-long event that tests the candidate’s ability to properly use equipment, demonstrate an understanding of handling plants and related materials, and pass written general comprehension tests — all done under the pressure of strict time frames. The candidate selects a specialty area (Maintenance, Installation, or Irrigation) and is judged on the skills and knowledge needed to perform tasks in that specialty. State associations are licensed by PLANET to administer the test. PLANET congratulates the following newly certified exterior landscape technicians:

Sam Sacharoff, CLT, Plantscapes, Inc., Seattle, WA

Certified Turfgrass Professional-Cool Season Lawns (CTP-CSL)
The CTP-CSL designation is earned by passing two exams based on material in Management of Cool Season Lawns. The course builds a foundation for understanding lawn management in the northern United States. Study topics include establishment and renovation; fertilization and liming; mowing, thatch management, aeration, and irrigation; pest and weed management; diseases; identification and management of insect pests; and pesticides and pesticide safety.
