Advocacy and service remain focus of PLANET’s Legislative Day

HERNDON, Va., June 4, 2008 — The Professional Landcare Network (PLANET), along with Platinum Sponsors Bayer Environmental Science, Husqvarna, and Syngenta invites all green industry professionals and their families to gather in Washington, D.C., July 20–22, 2008, for Legislative Day on the Hill and Renewal & Remembrance at Arlington National and Historic Congressional Cemeteries. The registration deadline is July 11, 2008.

Legislative Day provides the opportunity for green industry professionals to come together and present a unified voice and presence on Capitol Hill. In order to participate in the Hill visits, however, members will need to have had set up and confirmed an appointment with their members of Congress prior to coming to Washington, D.C. Setting up congressional appointments is as easy as going online to PLANET’s Web site, LandcareNetwork.org, and clicking on the U.S. Capitol icon to find the names of your members of Congress. From this Web page, green industry professionals can print out a letter requesting an appointment that they can then fax (the fax number will be provided in the letter) to their legislator(s). It’s important to make follow-up calls to the legislator(s) to confirm the appointment (or ask PLANET to make the follow-up call) and inform PLANET as Hill appointments are confirmed.

On Monday, July 21, before the visits to the Hill, green industry companies will also have the opportunity to help beautify some of the most cherished and hallowed grounds in the United States — Arlington National Cemetery and Historic Congressional Cemetery. The award-winning Renewal & Remembrance program is clearly the most significant community service project that PLANET does each year. Members are encouraged to bring their family as a children’s activity program is also part of this event.

Planned activities for Legislative Day on the Hill and Renewal & Remembrance begin Sunday, July 20, at 6:00 p.m. with an informal Welcome Reception, sponsored by EverGreen Software by Marathon Data Systems, at the L’Enfant Plaza Hotel, located at 480 L’Enfant Plaza SW in Washington D.C.
