FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PLANET STUDENT CAREER DAYS MOVES WEST TO CALIFORNIA

HERNDON, Va., July 2, 2008
— The Professional Landcare Network’s (PLANET) 33rd annual Student Career Days (SCD) will be held March 26–29, 2009, at the California State Polytechnic University, more commonly referred to as Cal Poly, in Pomona, California. This will be the second time hosting for Cal Poly – Pomona, which last hosted the event in 1992.
SCD is an annual three-day competitive event for students enrolled in horticulture programs from colleges and universities across the country. The students have the chance to compete in events that are directly related to the skills necessary for a career in the green industry. Close to 1,000 students attended the 32nd PLANET SCD at North Metro Technical College in Atlanta, Georgia, and participated in 25 individual and team competitions events ranging from arboriculture and paver installation to plant identification and exterior/interior design.

Aside from winning bragging rights for themselves and their school, students who participate in SCD also receive scholarships and award money. The PLANET Academic Excellence Foundation (AEF) gave away more than $70,000 in scholarships last year.

In addition to the competitive events, SCD offers future green industry employees the opportunity to network with potential employers and provides a forum for businesses to recruit top talent. More than 100 companies participated in the on-site Career Fair in 2008. Since 1977, SCD has grown to become the largest recruitment event in the industry, offering both recruiters and students a prime opportunity to further their future success.

Students, educators and green industry companies should make plans now to attend the 33rd annual Student Career Days. For more information about Student Career Days, e-mail Anna Demoret, call the PLANET office at (800) 395-2522, or visit the SCD Web site at StudentCareerDays.org.
