PLANET ANNOUNCES NEWLY CERTIFIED CANDIDATES

HERNDON, Va., August 1, 2006 — An important part of the mission of the Professional Landcare Network (PLANET) is to promote the professional advancement of its members. One means to achieve that goal is through a certification program that tests individuals against a national standard.

Certified Landscape Professional (CLP)
To achieve the CLP designation, a candidate must master a body of material on all aspects of operating a green industry business. The four-hour exam is divided into seven sections: Risk, Law, and Contracts; Human Resources; Production/Operation and Horticulture; Marketing; Leadership; Strategic Planning; and Corporate Financial Management. Certified Landscape Technician-Exterior (CLT-Exterior)
The CLT-Exterior exam is a day-long event that tests the candidate’s ability to properly use equipment, demonstrate an understanding of handling plants and related materials, and pass written general comprehension tests — all done under the pressure of strict time frames. The candidate selects a specialty area (Maintenance, Installation, or Irrigation) and is judged on the skills and knowledge needed to perform tasks in that specialty.
