Bart Stupak (D-Mich.) is the recipient of its 2008 Business Champion of the Year Award. The honor was bestowed on Stupak for his leadership and overall understanding of the needs of American business in sponsoring commonsense legislation, such as the H-2B guest worker program, that is beneficial to the green industry. He also is a founding member of the U.S. House Water Caucus. “Thank you for this award and for recognizing not just my work, but the work we have done together on issues important to your small businesses and so many others across my district and the country,” says Stupak. “Not only do I appreciate the work PLANET does here in Washington, but also the work done at the grassroots level by members all across the country on issues important to all of us. I look forward to continuing to work together in the coming weeks, months, and years to further our common goals.” Stupak was elected to represent Michigan’s First Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives in 1992. Currently, he serves as a member of the Water Caucus, which was established by Congress to promote a dialogue about water issues and provide timely, scientific information about water resources and water use; the House Energy and Commerce Committee; the Congressional Law Enforcement Caucus; and the Northern Border Caucus. The recipient of this year’s annual Business Champion of the Year Award was announced at PLANET’s recent Legislative Day on the Hill event in Washington, D.C. As part of the event, lawn and landscape company attendees from all parts of the country spent time visiting with their congressional representatives. The day prior to the visits on Capitol Hill, participants spent much of the day volunteering their time and skills to enhance the grounds at Arlington National and Historic Congressional cemeteries for PLANET’s “Renewal & Remembrance” project. More than 400 people attended the two-day event. Bayer Environmental Science, Husqvarna, and Syngenta Professional Products were the event’s Platinum Sponsors. For more information about Legislative Day on the Hill and Renewal & Remembrance at Arlington National and Historic Congressional cemeteries, contact Tom Delaney at (800) 395-2522 or visit the PLANET Web site, LandcareNetwork.org. PLANET is the association of members who create and maintain the QUALITY OF LIFE in communities across America.
