PLANET HONORS RECIPIENTS OF JUDGES’ AWARDS

Herndon, Va., November 15, 2006 — The Professional Landcare Network (PLANET) has awarded Lambert Landscape Co. of Dallas, Texas, and John Mini Distinctive Landscapes of Congers, New York, with the 2006 Judges’ Award at the recent Green Industry Conference in Columbus, Ohio.

Because of the exceptional quality of Lambert Landscape’s exterior residential design/build project, “Giardini del Palazzo,” and John Mini Distinctive Landscapes’ interior maintenance project, “ Winter Garden – World Financial Center,” judges of this year’s Environmental Improvement Awards Program chose to honor these companies with these prestigious awards.

Lambert Landscape sited the home and set a finish floor to take advantage of 9-foot topography and existing trees on a one-acre site. The company designed the front garden around 30 geothermal wells, created a side entry of dichondra interplanted limestone lined with Impruneta terracotta of clipped box globes. Additionally, stucco and carved stone piers with a wrought-iron gate begin the 250-foot axis, terminating into a 17th-century Italian statuary. Other touches of Italy include a linear fountain lined with Italian glass tile, 30-foot Italian cypress, and marble urn, bracket, and cartouche, all carved in Italy.

John Mini Distinctive Landscapes’ Winter Garden is located in lower Manhattan at the hub of the World Financial Center. The company follows a periodic maintenance schedule to maintain maximum health and appearance of the garden’s 16 perfectly matched 25-foot Washingtonia robusta palms. The regimen includes preventive spraying and monitoring natural light conditions. Because many public events take place in the garden, a stage was erected around the palms. Additionally, the marvelous architecture, park benches, and backdrop of retail shops make the garden a busy public venue.
