                                     PLANET HOLDS NEW MEMBER/EMERGING LEADERS SOCIAL
                                                         AT GREEN INDUSTRY CONFERENCE

HERNDON, Va., November 15, 2006 –– The Professional Landcare Network (PLANET) held its first Emerging Leaders Reception at the Green Industry Conference (GIC) in Columbus, Ohio. The reception was held to encourage the involvement of future leaders of PLANET and to share the various opportunities to participate in leadership roles as well as the learning opportunities that result from serving in a leadership position with PLANET.

Invitations were sent to new members, those who had attended PLANET’s Summer Leadership event, and those who had been to the association’s Breakfast with Champions event at GIC. The reception was sponsored by Market Hardware and included a raffle with a $1,000 prize for Web design.

More than 180 new members and emerging leaders attended the reception. Spearheading the event were Maria Candler, CLP, of James River Grounds Management, Inc., and Ed Furner, CLT, of Mariani Landscape. “This first annual event was an exciting opportunity to introduce new and emerging members to all the benefits of their PLANET membership,” says Candler. “It also served as a medium to encourage networking with industry peers for people who may not be comfortable or familiar with that process. That is where the true member value lies.”

A PowerPoint presentation during the event outlined PLANET’s organization, events, impact of networking through the association, and pertinent statistics. Additionally, a representative from each of PLANET’s four specialty groups (Fred Haskett, CTP, of U.S. Lawns/West St. Louis,
for the Lawn Care Specialty Group; Glenn Jacobsen, CLP, of Jacobsen Landscape Design & Construction, Inc., for the Design/Build Specialty Group; Brett Lemcke, of R.M. Landscape, Inc., for the Landscape Management Specialty Group; and Connie Hom, CLP, of Buckingham Greenery, Inc., for the Interior Plantscaping Specialty Group) spoke to the group.

“The table sessions provided new members with a question and answer session of how they can get involved in PLANET,” says Furner. He continues, “Many tables were hosted by seasoned veterans who allowed for some great mentor or peer partnerships between new members and the elite of the organization. All of the specialty groups were represented, so anyone in the room looking to get involved had a specific person that they could talk to during or after the session to find out how PLANET has benefited them both personally and professionally. “
