SAFETY QUICK CARDS AVAILABLE ON PLANET WEB SITE

HERNDON, Va., December 2, 2008
— The Professional Landcare Network (PLANET) is pleased to announce the availability of three safety Quick Cards, developed as a result of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and PLANET Alliance. English versions of the Quick Cards are posted in the Safety section of the PLANET Web site, LandcareNetwork.org, and are free to both PLANET members and nonmembers. Spanish versions of all three cards will be posted on the Web site in the near future.

The Quick Card topics include “Gasoline Powered Cut-Off Machines,” “Personal Protective Equipment for Mixing Chemicals in Lawn Care,” and “Using Small Equipment Safely in Landscaping.” Each card provides several tips and precautions for workplace safety.

The PLANET and OSHA Alliance provides large and small landscape services industry employers with information, guidance, and access to training resources to help them protect the safety and health of their employees, including youth and low-literacy level and non-English speaking workers. In particular, the Alliance focuses on reducing and preventing exposure to manual material handling and slip, trip, and fall hazards, and on addressing motor vehicle safety issues.

In addition to the Quick Cards, additional safety resources are available in the Safety Program section at LandcareNetwork.org. For more information about all PLANET’s safety programs, e-mail Cheryl Claborn or call (800) 395-2522.

PLANET is the association of members who create and maintain the QUALITY OF LIFE in communities across America. With more than 4,200 member companies and affiliates, these firms and their employees represent more than 100,000 green industry professionals.
