Snow & Ice Management Association announces salt supply webinar

It’s hard to think about snow removal in June, but now is the time to prepare for the upcoming winter season. The Snow & Ice Management Association will be holding a webinar entitled “Creating Stronger Relationships with Bulk Salt Suppliers” on Wednesday, July 15, 2009, at 3:00 p.m. EST. The session will feature speakers Mike Betts and Todd Martin of With a Grain of Salt, and will focus on managing salt as a snow and ice management professional.

Specifically, this webinar will help attendees:

  • Understand the logistical salt supply chain from the national level to the local level.
  • Gain insight into developing a salt supply management program and the best times to purchase salt for your business/organization.
  • Hear tips on how to develop a more powerful partnership with salt suppliers, learning how to work with them to purchase the amount of salt you need, and how both parties can work together to mitigate risk from low-snow winters.

The webinar will also be available in an archived, on-demand format, as well as on CD-ROM. For more information or to register, call (414) 375-1940 or visit the SIMA Web site.

It’s 40 years old and still going strong

The awards program instills company pride for a job well-done, provides great public relations for your company, acts as a valuable customer recruitment and retention tool, and promotes camaraderie among employees.

When you submit an entry by the early-bird deadline of July 13, 2009, you’ll qualify for a discounted entry fee of $285. To celebrate the program’s 40th anniversary, each additional entry that you submit by the early-bird deadline is discounted by 40 percent to $171. The fee for entries received between July 14 and August 10 is $365 per entry.

PLANET

The Professional Landcare Network (PLANET) is an international association serving lawn care professionals, landscape management, design/build/installation professionals, and interior plantscapers. PLANET provides its members with a good business foundation to help them evaluate, plan, and better manager their companies. Member firms have direct access to marketing tools, industry-specific business publications, updates on legislative issues, and networking opportunities that can assist them in becoming more profitable.

PLANET also has a strong certification program, offering seven certification designations to individuals in the green industry.  The passing of the tests required to earn these designations demonstrates the individual’s competency and skill within the landscape and lawn care industries.  The notation by companies that they have “certified personnel” among their employees assists consumers in locating well-qualified landscape and lawn care professionals.

The PLANET certifications include the Certified Landscaped Professional (CLP) and Certified Landscape Technician (CLT), both offered with either exterior or interior specialty, Certified Turfgrass Professional (CTP), Certified Turfgrass Professional–Cool Season Lawns (CTP–CSL), and Certified Ornamental Landscape Professional (COLP).

PLANET emerged on January 1, 2005, when the Associated Landscape Contractors of America (ALCA) and the Professional Lawn Care Association of America (PLCAA) joined forces to become a more encompassing network of green industry professionals.

PLCAA, organized in 1979, was a global trade association for residential and commercial lawn care professionals.  ALCA, founded in 1961, was the global trade association for landscape maintenance, installation, and design/build contractors and interior plantscapers.

PLANET is the association of members who create and maintain the QUALITY OF LIFE in communities across America.  With more than 3,500 member companies and affiliates, these firms and their employees represent more than 100,000 green industry professionals, in the areas of business management, government affairs, public relations, technical assistance, safety and insurance, education, and industry relations with other facets of the green industry.
