At Saturday’s Reports to Leadership, the specialty groups and committees provided an update to the group on recent accomplishments and plans for the coming year. Following are some of the highlights: Specialty Groups Design/Build/Installation Specialty Group Working to complete the group’s new CD, Landscape Design Gallery, which will launch at this year’s Green Industry Conference (GIC). Interior Plantscaping Specialty Group Working to recruit new specialty group members and setting up meeting schedule. Lawn Care Specialty Group Working with the Lawn Care Association of Pennsylvania on an occupational analysis that will be shared with both associations (LCAP is paying the expenses) and working to determine value in the creation of a Lawn Care Tech Package. Landscape Management Specialty Group Working on analysis of data from 2007 focus group to determine future initiatives and planning more emphasis on marketing for the group’s new pruning DVD. Committees Membership Working on ways to enhance the recruitment and retention process, approved PLANET exhibiting at six state/regional level conferences, and launched Member-Get-A-Member program. Education GIC 2008 will showcase a certification review in each track, Ask the Experts presentations in the PLANET booth, and GIE+EXPO Show Floor Workshop to be called, Exhibit Hall Learning Center; Life Balance is the confirmed 2009 Executive Forum theme, and it will take place February 18–22, 2009, with speakers such as Murray Banks, Bill Arman, and Scott Smith. The Education Committee created a strategic task force that will start identifying new concepts of education to include webinars, “training in a box,” “brown bag seminars,” and more partnering with state associations. Certification Reviewed success of revised CLT-E with the first three exams, approved the proposed Authorization Process for CLT-E exam administrators, Designation Renaming Task Force and Recertification Task Force received tentative approval of direction and results. Government Affairs PLANET PAC can now accept credit cards, and there will be a PAC Bingo fundraiser at the Legislative Day on the Hill Dinner; exploring the possibility of establishing national Integrated Pest Management (IPM) standards. Safety & Risk Management Completed the Safety Tailgate Training Manual; working on new safety benchmarking project ; working closely with CNA to offer bulletins and safety orientation DVD to members in the coming months. Industry Development Launching the Educator Trailblazer program, 11 nominations collected; record-breaking student attendance at 2008 Student Career Days (SCD); planning underway for SCD 2009 at Cal Poly Pomona; launching landlovers.org, a Web site geared toward recruiting students into the green industry, this summer. Public Relations Developing new program called National Day of Service and plans are underway for Renewal & Remembrance. Awards Launching new Promise Award that is aligned with the five goals of the PLANET Promise. Governance Finalizing Whistleblower Policy, nominations process for PLANET leadership, and committee training. Planning and Finance Finalizing Disaster Recovery Plan and completed 2007 audit. |
