Note: Students earn one point towards their SCD Tech certificate for participating in the tour.

This tour will include three stops- The Georgia Aquarium, Pike Family Nurseries, Inc. and The Smith-Gilbert Arboretum.

The Georgia Aquarium is the world’s largest indoor aquarium. With more than eight million gallons of fresh and marine water and more aquatic life than found in any other aquarium, you will be amazed. See African penguins, California Sea Lions, Beluga Whales, Whale Sharks, Giant Grouper, Sharks, Giant Pacific Octopus and much more. Pike Family Nurseries, Inc. is an Atlanta based Retail Garden Center Chain with locations in the Atlanta area and also in the Carolinas and Alabama. Pike is opening a new store in the fall of 2007 that will offer state of the art retailing with its many challenges of inventory management in an in town smaller concept store. Also included in the SCD tour is the Smith-Gilbert Arboretum. The arboretum is operated by the city of Kennesaw and is a 13 acre jewel in the middle of surrounding subdivisions and city growth. The city recently purchased this private garden and is operating it for public and private tours and with many outstanding educational programs. The garden includes a woodland trail, a rose garden, a conifer collection, a perennial border and a tremendous daffodil collection. There are many varieties of hollies, maples and other outstanding collections. It is truly spectacular. It also features a tremendous collection of garden sculpture and an early 1800’s home.
