With more than 20 years of experience in all facets of landscape design, installation, and maintenance, Jim McCutcheon is an active member of the landscape industry. Within PLANET, Jim has served as the chairman for the Crystal Ball Subcommittee and also served as the president for the PLANET Academic Excellence Foundation (PLANET AEF) board of directors.

Scott Jamieson, Landscape Industry Certified Technician

Scott is Vice President of Bartlett Tree Experts. He leads Bartlett’s national recruiting and corporate partnerships efforts and also heads the Bartlett Inventory Solutions team in providing innovative and technologically advanced tree management plans to clients across the country. Prior to joining Bartlett in 2008, Scott was president and CEO of a national tree care firm with revenues of over $50 million. Scott serves as a director on a number of boards including: The Alliance for Community Trees, the Midwest Ecological Landscape Association, The Morton Arboretum and Openlands in Chicago. He is the past chair of the board for the Tree Care Industry Association and a former board member for the National Safety Council.

Glenn H. Jacobsen is the Founder and President of Jacobsen Landscape Design & Construction located in Midland Park, New Jersey, which celebrates more than 34 years in the industry. Glenn has served a number of leadership roles within PLANET, including PLANET AEF Ambassador, PLANET Founding Trailblazer, member of the Design/Build/Installation Specialty Group and a PLANET board member. Within the industry, he is actively involved as a trainer and mentor of students in the internship programs of SUNY Cobleskill and Penn State University, as well as an advisory board member of Bergen Community College Horticulture Program. Most recently, Glenn spearheaded the "PLANET Gives Back" community service project in Louisville, KY during the 2011, 2012, and 2013 Green Industry Conferences.

Jason Becker is Caterpillar's trade association manager and handles all association partnerships and activities for Caterpillar. Jason grew up in a small town and spent his years before college cutting neighborhood lawns. Upon graduating from Iowa State in 2001, Jason was immediately hired at Caterpillar and has been involved with landscaping associations every year since. Jason has a passion for leadership and in finding creative solutions to customer and association needs. Jason has been involved in the strategy and planning of business education for PLANET and state association members for the past two years and is currently part of the DBI Specialty Group.

Michael Byrne has more than 25 years of business experience and has served in several leadership positions within ALCA and PLANET. He was ALCA's 2003 president, served on the ALCA Exterior Council, and chaired the Awards Committee.

Jon Cundiff
President, Weed-Man, Kansas City
Specialty Areas: Lawn Care

Cundiff has been in the landscape industry since 1976 as a member of the Kansas City Royals. In 1987 Jon and Vicky, his wife, started up Turf's Up Lawn service in the Kansas City metro area. In 2000, Cundiff joined the Weed Man organization, and is currently a sub-franchisor for the mid-west region of the U.S. in charge of business development and dealer support. Locally, Cundiff has been an active member of Mid America Green Industry Council for 20 years, 10 of which were on the board of directors. Nationally, Cundiff is a member of PLANET and served 10 years on the PLCAA board of directors as well as a six-year member of GIE board of directors. Cundiff currently participates in the PLANET Trailblazer program as well as the Lawn Care Specialty Group.

Joy Diaz

Joy has more than 28 years of business experience, with the last 18 years being within Land Care Incorporated, a landscaping company she owns with her husband in North Las Vegas, Nevada. Because of Joy’s love of public speaking and interacting with people, you will often find her communicating about educational topics including marketing, human resources, and public administration. She has been very active within PLANET over the past two decades, serving on several committees. She is also currently on the Board of Directors for the newly formed Southern Nevada Landscape Association and an active member of the Nevada Landscape Association.

Kristen Fefes, CAE
Executive Director, Associated Landscape Contractors of Colorado
Specialty Area: State Association

Kristen joined ALCC’s staff in 1999 as deputy executive director and was named executive director in 2001. In addition to running the office and financial affairs of the association, she focuses her time on industry relations, governance issues, leadership development, government affairs, and strategy implementation. Kristen also serves on the executive team of the Green Industries of Colorado (GreenCO) an umbrella organization of seven green industry trade associations, where she provides financial management for the organization and serves as point for the industry-wide legislative efforts.

Prior to her work at with ALCC, Kristen was employed at a Washington, D.C. public relations firm where she served as membership and conference staff for two national trade associations, and worked with a number of agency clients on public affairs and media issues. She also spent a year as public affairs director for the Operation Respond Institute, another D.C.-based not for profit. Kristen earned her Bachelor’s degree in History and English from the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.

Tom Fochtman, Landscape Industry Certified Manager

Tom Fochtman is a more than 35 year landscape industry veteran. He is the founder and CEO of Ceibass Venture Partners, a consulting firm specializing on exit strategies for landscape industry companies. In addition to serving on PLANET’s board of directors, he is currently the President of the PLANET Academic Excellence Foundation (PLANET AEF) board of directors.

Bill Horn, Landscape Industry Certified Manager & Technician

Bill Horn has more than 30 years of business experience and has served in several leadership positions within PLANET. He was the chairman of the Landscape Management Specialty Group (2008-2010) and currently serves on the GIE board of directors, PLANET Safety and Risk Management Committee, and is a PLANET Trailblazer. Within the industry, he is a member of the California Landscape Contractors Association (CLCA).

Zach Johnson, Landscape Industry Certified Manager & Technician

Zach Johnson is an Associate Professor in the Landscape Design and Contracting and Landscape Business Programs at Colorado State University. Additionally he has more than 20 years of experience in the private sector specializing in residential design/build. Zach has volunteered extensively at both the state and national level in landscape industry leadership. He is also a licensed professional landscape architect.

Brett Lemcke, Landscape Industry Certified Manager

Brett Lemcke has been working in the industry since the age of 15 for the family business founded by his father and uncle. He is currently responsible for the company and the day to day operations of the company as well as the management of the Landscape Management Division. R.M. Landscape has been a full service landscape firm for more than 38 years and has been an active member of PLANET and the legacy association ALCA for more than 25 years. Brett has been an active member in a number of committees , including the Industry Recruiting committee and the Student Career Days Committee.

Paul has been in the landscape industry for more than 30 years with both landscape industry service and supplier companies. In those years, he has served in roles ranging from a Lawn Service Technician to a Territory Sales Rep to a Sales Vice President. In addition he has served on several state and national industry association boards of directors. He is a past president of Project Evergreen where he currently serves on the Executive Committee. He is also the former Chair of the Government Affairs Committee for PLANET.

Michael McShane, Landscape Industry Certified Manager

Michael McShane was the President and CEO of Plantique Inc., a 64 year old landscape design/build and maintenance company located in Allentown, PA. While managing the financial, personnel and marketing aspects of the 100-employee company, Michael was constantly looking to expand upon his leadership and management skills. Michael is past chair of the Design/Build/Installation Specialty Group and PLANET Trailblazer. Michael has served on a number of PLANET committees. Within the industry, he is a member of the Pennsylvania Landscape and Nursery Association (PLNA). Michael has a strong commitment to his community and is actively involved in numerous local organizations.

Shayne Newman, Landscape Industry Certified Manager & Technician
President, YardApes, Inc.
Specialty Area: Landscape Management

Experienced in the trade since 1987, Shayne Newman founded YardApes, Inc. in 1990 and holds the title of president. He hails from Telluride, Colorado, but has lived in New Milford for the past 27 years. Shayne received a B.S. in Finance from the University of Connecticut, is a Landscape Industry Certified Technician, Landscape Industry Certified Manager, holds a Connecticut Supervisory Pesticide License, and is a Certified Landscape Designer.

He is also the Professional Landcare Network (PLANET) Public Relations committee chair, a CNLA committee member, founding member of the Connecticut LICT committee on training & testing, Community Culinary School of Northwestern Connecticut board member, as well as Village Center for the Arts board member.

Roger Phelps, Landscape Industry Certified Manager

A Navy veteran, Roger Phelps joined STIHL in 2001 and is responsible for sponsorships, public relations, event marketing, social media, and trade shows. Among his responsibilities are production of the STIHL® TIMBERSPORTS® Series seen on ESPN2; event marketing; and PR relationships, such as the STIHL Dogs and Logs World Championships, National FFA Foundation, and TV personality P. Allen Smith; and association relationships like the National Association of State Park Directors, ISA, and PLANET. He is also part of STIHL's environmental stewardship team.

Barb Stropko

Barbara and her husband John are principals of New Desert Gallery, Inc., a landscape and swimming pool design/build firm serving southern Arizona for more than 35 years. She is a past President of the Arizona Landscape Contractors' Association and is currently on the Board of Trustees.

Barbara has been the PLANET Design/Build/Installation specialty group chair since 2010 and is currently the chair of the 2014 Great Escape committee, as well as serving on several other PLANET committees.

Barbara is passionate about the design/build industry and is a PLANET Trailblazer.
