Check out the latest in a 2012 series by PRO highlighting Landscape Industry Certified in the May/June issue. "Plant Installation Tips Take it Back to Basics" by International Certification Council (ICC) Chair-Elect David Hupman features the Technician-Exterior exam.
According to Hupman, "I am a Landscape Industry Certified Manager & Technician, but it was the Technician-Exterior designation I sought first. I was the first to pass the test in Ohio, so I had "celebrity" status from the start. This helped me to get involved, take on leadership roles, and improve my understanding of this field. I learned to question how I'd done things to that point. The answers I found pushed me to another level in my job knowledge and performance. I wanted to coach and mentor more, which for a trainer are critical qualities."
A blog on the "Relevance of Certification" is available at voiceofthegreenindustry.org. ICC Chair Michael Becker, Landscape Industry Certified Manager, sings the praises of Landscape Industry Certified in the piece. "I would go so far as to say that Landscape Industry Certified is the valid measure of your relevance in the industry. It is an expertly constructed and administered, industry-valid, and correct measuring stick of where your knowledge level is in accordance with known and accepted best practices, and current knowledge in the landscape industry."
