Bill Arman and Ed Laflamme—The Harvest Group
Ed Laflamme, Landscape Industry Certified, has been in the green industry for 42 years. He’s a Landscape Industry Certified Professional, and author of the hugely popular book: “Green Side Up, Straight Talk on Growing & Operating a Profitable Landscape Business!”
Bill Arman is a 37 year green industry veteran, 2006 National Landscape Leadership Award recipient, and author of the book and recruiting kit, “The Harvest Way for Recruiting and Hiring the Right People.”
While Ed was building the largest landscape maintenance company in Connecticut, voted one of the top 25 best companies in the United States, where he maintained 10 Corporate World Headquarters in Connecticut and New York, from Aetna to GE to Xerox, Bill was enjoying a nearly 30 year career at the ValleyCrest Companies. At ValleyCrest, Bill went from apprentice gardener level to become the Regional VP of Southern California, leading a $25 Million dollar portfolio, with over 600 employees. Bill also served as VP of Human Resources at the ValleyCrest Companies, where he and his HR team built the training, recruiting and performance review programs for over 6,500 employees.
Harvesters Ed and Bill co-founded The Harvest Group in 2007 and now serve Harvest Group Members in over 30 states and three countries. Over their history in the green industry both Ed and Bill are published authors, have given talks, workshops, webinars, pod casts, written columns and articles for leading publications and specialize in consulting and coaching landscape owners and leaders to help them, “Harvest Their Potential!”
Zachery Bruce, CSP– Hortica Insurance & Employee Benefits
Zach Bruce has been with Hortica Insurance & Employee Benefits since 2005. He currently serves as assistant vice president of loss control & safety, overseeing the loss control & safety team as they navigate insured’s thru the unique risks and needs of horticultural businesses to ensure safe and profitable operations. He is actively involved in reviewing safety procedures, conducting safety training and safety audits, and discussing claims data with customers. His previous positions at Hortica have included loss control manager and senior loss control representative for the East region.
Zach earned a bachelor’s degree in safety studies from Keene State College, and is also a Certified Safety Professional (CSP).
Tina Marie (Waliczek) Cade—Texas State University–San Marcos
Tina Marie (Waliczek) Cade is currently a Professor of Horticulture in the Department of Agriculture at Texas State University where she teaches 12 different courses in horticulture and advises multiple graduate students on research projects. Her research interests are diverse and have focused on the area of people/plant interactions including studies on active interactions of people with plants in community, home or school gardens, as well as passive interactions of people with plants in green spaces outside and inside with interior plants. She has been studying the benefits of these interactions for 20 years and has looked at variables such as crime and community gardens, self-esteem in children, overall quality of life of gardeners and workplace job satisfaction in interiorscaped offices. She is also a registered horticultural therapist and a certified arborist. She is the faculty manager of the award-winning Bobcat Blend university composting program which processes all of the cafeteria food waste on campus. She also manages the on-campus floral shop and floral event sales program, Bobcat Bloom. She is currently working on co-authoring a textbook which will focus on urban horticulture and people/plant interactions.
Lynn P. Griffith, Jr. — Tropical Plant and Soil Expert
Lynn has written four books on tropical plants, as well as numerous technical articles for trade journals over the last 28 years.
With his vast experience and education, Lynn has been invited to give technical speeches, lectures and seminars to agricultural firms, societies, and associations regularly since 1982, averaging 12-15 talks per year. His areas of expertise include soil plant and water analysis, plant nutrition, agronomy, water quality, pest and disease control, and plant physiology. Lynn is a Certified Crop Advisor in Florida and throughout the U.S., and he is certified by the American Society of Agronomy.
