PLANET Fights DOL rule, Aims to Save the H-2B Program
The Department of Labor (DOL) has issued a final rule that would make significant changes to the H-2B program. PLANET continues to fight against the new H-2B final rule, working with members of Congress and the H-2B Workforce Coalition to urge the DOL to rescind this final rule. This rule is similar to an earlier proposed rule published in March 2011. The effective date of the final rule is April 23, 2012. A DOL drafted comparison chart between the current 2009 regulations and the 2012 final rule can be found here.
Please go to our legislative action center and use the letter we have provided there to alert your senators and representatives about these new changes. You are encouraged to personalize the letter to fit your situation. In the action center, you will also find a link, “Read About This Issue,” to a summary of the new H-2B rule.
There are discussions planned about our present lawsuit, these new regulations and how they might affect you, and what to do about them. Whatever the outcome, additional funds will be needed to continue the lawsuit before the H-2B wage rule takes effect on October 1, following the expiration of a prohibition set by Congress in the FY2012 Consolidated Appropriations Act.
