PLANET NAMES NORMAN GOLDENBERG PRESIDENT OF 2012/2013 BOARD OF DIRECTORS
HERNDON, Va., May 15, 2012 — The Professional Landcare Network (PLANET) announced that it has named Norman Goldenberg, Landscape Industry Certified Technician, president of the 2012/2013 board of directors. Goldenberg officially took office this month.
“This will be a breakout year for PLANET in membership growth,” said Goldenberg when asked about his plans for the year. “We will have greater recognition as the green industry leader and will provide even more opportunities for skill improvement through our five specialty groups.”
Goldenberg’s goal is to ensure members make use of the vast resources that PLANET has built over the years to provide them with a competitive advantage through learning resources and through PLANET Universe, the association’s comprehensive green industry web portal. He also plans to continue to build relationships with other green industry associations and societies which will bring tremendous value through strategic alliances and partnerships.
“After working over the years with PLANET committees and the board, it’s a true honor to serve as president of this organization,” stated Goldenberg.
Goldenberg was extremely active with the Professional Lawn Care Association of America (before it became part of PLANET). He served on its board and was chairman of the government affairs committee. In 2005, he was a PLANET board member and also served as chair of PLANET’s Government Affairs Committee—at the organization’s inception. He has also served on the PLANET Academic Excellence Foundation (AEF) board and, most recently, has again been an active member with PLANET’s Government Affairs Committee.
Goldenberg’s bio is a testimony to his dedication to the green industry. As the senior vice president for government affairs and industry relations with Terminix International and TruGreen (both are ServiceMaster companies), he spent countless hours volunteering in the green industry as well as in the pest control industry. His board positions and committee affiliations include the National Pest Management Association, the Florida Pest Management Association, Project Evergreen, the Professional Lawn Care Association of America, the Professional Landcare Network, Responsible Industry for a Sound Environment (RISE), the state of Florida (where he served on various pest committees), the state of Tennessee (where he worked closely with the Tennessee Department of Agriculture), and the Environmental Protection Agency where he served on lawn care pesticide and stormwater committees.
Throughout his career, Goldenberg has earned numerous awards and recognition. Last fall, at the PLANET Green Industry Conference, PLANET honored him for his dedication and service to the industry. He has been listed in a number of “who’s who” industry roundups, named “Guardian of the Environment,” by one publication, and given a Hall of Fame designation by another. In 2004, he received the Pinnacle Award from the National Pest Management Association.
“Norman is one of our most dedicated members,” said Sabeena Hickman, CAE, CMP, chief executive officer of PLANET. “He goes wherever we need him, volunteers his service without ever complaining, and is always involved. His knowledge and leadership has been an enormous asset for PLANET.”
Goldenberg is a graduate of the University of Florida with a bachelor of science in entomology, and he is a board-certified entomologist. He resides in Miami—although he spends a lot of time on the road traveling to his company offices in Memphis, Tenn., as well around the country to TruGreen and Terminix branches, and to many association and committee meetings.
The Professional Landcare Network (PLANET) is an association representing more than 100,000 lawn and landscape professionals in the United States and Canada. PLANET member firms provide a wide range of landscape, lawn care, tree care, irrigation and water management, and interior plantscape services, including consultation, design, installation, and maintenance. PLANET members are dedicated to improving the environment through public service projects and responsible stewardship. PLANET promotes professionalism in the industry by providing continuing education, legislative advocacy, and administering the professional certification known as Landscape Industry Certified.
